Cricket Cell Phone Plans

Affordable Unlimited Plans and Smartphone Plans

221192_Smartphone plans - $55/month
An unlimited Cricket cell phone plan can cost as little as $35 per month for just unlimited talk and text and go up to $55 to $65 per month for unlimited all-inclusive plans for their Smartphone plan and Music plan respectively.

There are add-ons you can purchase on top of that. The $45 plan gives unlimited talk, text, and mobile web on non-smartphone handsets and is a good deal if you're willing to skip getting a smartphone.

Coverage

Unlike many other prepaid or no-contract providers, Cricket actually has its own growing cell phone network. The company even claims provide more coverage than even T-Mobile.

Verizon and AT&T, of course, have more extensive networks, however, they those companies don't provide the entire network to their prepaid customers.

Cricket Coverage Map

You can checkCricket coverage for talk, text and data by entering your zip code.

$35 Plan

Unlimited Talk, Text and Web

The $35 plan gives you unlimited talk, text and web on their basic phones. This plan includes nationwide long distance. The only extra charges the possibility of roaming charges if you have to go outside Cricket’s network.

As long as you're happy with talk, text and web, this could be a great option for you.

$45 Plan

Adds Unlimited Picture and Video Message (including International)

The $45 Cricket cell phone plan adds in some really great unlimited features such as picture and video messaging in the United States and internationally (to select countries).

You don’t officially get “mobile email”, but I think you can use the mobile web feature to check your Gmail, Hotmail, etc. More mundane features available include call forwarding, three-way calling and 411 info services.

3G Data

If you get a 3G Cricket phone, then you also get 3G mobile data.

$55 Smartphone Plan

The Cricket Smartphone plan costs $55 per month and takes into account the higher data usage or Android and Blackberry users. Cricket has a growing selection of Android smartphones but currently offers only one Blackberry phone, the Curve 8530.

One feature this plan adds is mobile email - which you'd expect.

Music Plan $65

Music, Video and Ringtone Downloads

If you pay an additional $10, you get access to unlimited downloads of music, videos and ringtones to your phone. Phone available under this Android Muve Music plan include the ZTE Score and the Samsung Vitality.

International Plans

$55 Mexico Plan

The Mexico plan adds in a bucket of calls to Mexico landlines. This is great if you need to make regular calls to our southern neighbor. You get 500 minutes to Mexico landlines and 30 minutes to Mexico mobile phones. You can also set up a local number in Mexico so when friends and relatives call you, it's a local call for them.

Global Plan $65

For $10 more, you can extend the bucket of 500 landline minutes and 30 mobile minutes to all international calls (from the approved list of countries.)

Additional Charges?

No more Activation Fees

There are no longer any activation fees when you first sign up with Cricket.

Roaming Fees

Roaming fees may still be possible. Cricket's network is much improved, so much so, in fact, that they now boast that it's better than T-Mobile's. While I have no way of checking that claim, it's true that you're less likely to be in a situation where you have to make roaming calls.

When you're in an roaming area, your phone will indicate it by either displaying an "R" or the word "Roaming". If you're in a roaming area, you can only make your phone call if you have added a roaming minutes add-on package.

You can buy 30-minute roaming airtime packs for $5 each, or about 16.7 cents per minute. If you're somewhat near a borderline area for coverage, you might want to get one just in case, and monitor your usage.

Of course, if you spend too much time roaming, you should switch to a different provider.
