Sprint Prepaid Phones

And the Companies that Provide them

Search This Site:

You may be looking for a Sprint prepaid phone because you think they provide the best coverage in your area or like their call quality.

Introducing the Android-Powered Samsung Galaxy
Sprint-based Android Phone

You may be surprised to learn that Sprint/Nextel have not created their own prepaid service. Instead, they have instead allowed other companies to use their network to build their own Sprint-based prepaid wireless services. Apparently as an act of good faith, Sprint has decided not to compete with them by bringing out its own branded service. (Update: Sprint owns Boost Mobile and has bought Virgin Mobile as well, but will operate them as separate brands.)

So here are some of the top Sprint prepaid phone companies.

Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile USA is perhaps the biggest Sprint-based prepaid cell phone company. Their phones and plans are marketed heavily to the younger crowd. Hence there is an emphasis on texting. Although full-fledged web access is not as convenient as with, say, the Iphone (unsurprisingly), you can get access to Virgin XL data services and even update your Facebook page, etc.

Boost Mobile

Boost Mobile is also targeted at the younger crowd. Their phones are a little fancier, so if you’re for a more capable phone, you can try them.

Kajeet

Kajeet cell phone are meant for boys and girls between 8 and 12 years-old. There are a couple of nice phones and a well-thought out set of controls for the parents so they both can monitor and limit their children's usage as well as help teach them responsibility.

Straight Talk - Android

Straight Talk phones use all the major network carriers, but their Android phones specifically rely on the Sprint network. Their unlimited plan costs $45 per month including data.

If you are addition to these high-visibility phone companies that rely on Sprint, prepaid providers with less visible profile that also provide attractive rates and services also exist.

PlatinumTel

PlatinumTel is sold online with prepaid service at 5 cents per minute, 2 cents each text and 10 cents per megabyte. Monthly plans are also available.

i-Wireless

i-Wireless is sold online and through Kroger supermarkets and other stores. You can earn airtime credits by shopping at these stores.

STi Mobile

STi Mobile’s minutes never expire. They have a couple of prepaid rate plans and a couple of no-contract plans that offer free nights and weekends. Their choice of phones is limited but improving.

Liberty Wireless

Liberty Wireless offers a free LG prepaid phone when you buy 500 minutes of airtime for $20. They also have a no-contract plan and offer a free Motorola Q when you sign up for their $50 for 28 days unlimited plan.

There are a few other providers, but I recommend sticking with the list above. You can see the full list of Sprint prepaid and other alternative providers here.

Only Want Sprint?

So what if you only want to go directly with Sprint? You'll get a good price on a fancy phone but also a two year contract. Two well-known online dealers of Sprint phones are Wirefly and BestCarrierDeals.com. Going with them gets you free two-way shipping and a few dollars savings. Or you can go directly to Sprint's website.
