Walmart Verizon Prepaid Phones
The selection of Walmart Verizon prepaid phones available online has always been relatively small. In fact, currently (Jan. 2012), there are no handsets available online! You can get them in stores, however. The prices typically are actually a few dollars less than what you would pay for them if you ordered them direct from Verizon. When I checked a year ago, the only handset available from Walmart online was the LG Accolade pictured below.
The LG Accolade is an attractive and inexpensive Bluetooth camera phone with voice dialing on Verizon’s CDMA network. The phone has a 1.3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth capability. It sells for under $20 and is a pretty good deal, but it is sometimes out of stock. This phone replaced the . . . LG 5500 $22.88
This phone which originally cost about $60 is no longer offered on their site. The LG 5500 is also a Bluetooth camera phone but it has better battery life than the Samsung Smooth. The 5500 has a talk time of 300 minutes (5 hours) and a standby time of 440 hours (about 18 days). Other features include: voice dialing, internet access, speakerphone and multimedia messages. Walmart or Verizon Online?Verizon has four phones available with their daily prepaid plans on their website. The LG Accolade is priced higher on Verizon's site, but they do have a Samsung flip at under $20. You also can get more advance prepaid phones on Verizon's site such as the Samsung Intensity II for 99.99. Check out prepaid phones on Verizon's site here. Are Walmart Verizon Phones Refurbished?Phones from phones come with a one-year (not ninety day) warranty. My guess is that they are new and not refurbished. However, these phones may be excess stock that Walmart is trying to clear out to make space for the next batch of phones.Avoiding Activation FeesEven though the phones can cost a few dollars more, the advantage of getting the phone online from Verizon is that you can then avoid the $20 activation fee.
Best Walmart Option
In fact the best Walmart Verizon Prepaid phone may actually be the unlocked Palm Pixi smartphone. While this phone wasn't a big hit in the end, it does have some nice features, and can be had at an attractive price without having to sign up for a long term contract. (Note: A GSM version is also available if you wanted to use it with an AT&T or T-Mobile plan.)
