Tracfone texting works in India

I spoke with two customer service reps at Tracfone who both told me calls to India were supported, but international texting, including India, was NOT. I tried anyway and it worked fine! No special international codes needed - just text as usual. My son in India has a first generation iPhone. Not sure if that matters or not, but I was pleasantly surprised when texts were able to be sent and received on both ends. You can call out and receive at regular Tracfone rates, but it's very expensive for him to receive and send calls from India on the iPhone, so the international texting option solves that. Hope this might help someone else in a similar situation, at least with India. Not sure about texting other countries. The official company line from Tracfone is that they don't support international texting at all. My cursory Google search on this topic turned up very little info..... |
