Tracfone LG 600g Review

Bluetooth, Camera and Voice Recorder

The Tracfone LG 600g phone features a camera, Bluetooth headset compatibility and a voice recorder. This HAC M3 rated phone can store up to 1000 phonebook entries and comes with Tracfone's Double Minutes for life offer.

This is no longer a current offering. You might still find the information useful but keep in mind that it's from a couple of years ago. Let's start with some basic info. The most recently released phone in this plan is the LG 440g.

Basics

Size and Weight

The LG 600g measures 1.79 x 3.89 x 0.54 inches and weighs a little over 3 ounces.

Battery life

The included Lithium-ion battery lets you talk for up to 6.5 hours, and the battery lasts on standby for up to 13 days.

Accessories

You can order a universal accessory pack that includes a wired handsfree headphone/mic and a car charger. You have to buy a Bluetooth-compatible wireless headset separately.

Reasons to Get It

Here are the main attractions of the new Tracfone LG 600g.

Feedback: B. from NW PA writes:

Thank you so much for your info on sending a tracfone txt message to an email address. I have an LG tracfone and the only difference is that there is no "Quick Notes" in the Messages section, but there is a notepad and I can save up to 50 notes. It takes a couple more steps to get the address in a message, but it works. All of your info works on my LG tracfone in NW PA, USA. You solved my problem. Thank you.

You're welcome B., and thanks for your kind comments!

Bluetooth enabled

The LG 600g is compatible with those Bluetooth headsets you stick on your ear. They come in handy when you’re in the car and need a hands-free device, or when you’re in the street and want to look like you’re talking to yourself.

Hands-free Speaker phone

If you don’t have a Bluetooth headset, you can always use the phone’s hands-free speaker phone. Useful in the house or on smooth roads (gets too noisy otherwise).

If you’re not using the phone at the moment for talking or texting, you can take pictures.

VGA camera

Yes it’s got a VGA-resolution camera. That’s good enough resolution to take a quick snap and send it off via picture message to someone’s phone or email address (at the cost of two units), but it’s not good enough for a print you can frame.

And once you’re done with the fun, you can use the voice recorder to make a few notes to remember.

Voice Recorder

The LG 600g's voice recorder is a unique (as far as I can tell) feature among prepaid phones. (This feature is now available on many other phones.) Presumably it is useful for making shopping lists, etc. I can’t imagine it being marketed for making notes for business use, but I suppose you can use it that way.

Record contact info

For example, I sometimes don’t ask for contact info because it’s such a distraction to enter it, but hey, it actually might be useful to just record contact information using the Voice Recorder and then enter it later at your leisure in the LG600g’s phonebook!

Phonebook with up to 1000 entries

Yyou can store up to 1000 entries in its phonebook.

More Reasons

Some standard and some new features may make your decision a little easier.

Data Services

This Tracfone LG 600g is compatible with some data services such as news, sports and weather. Generally speaking, at the time this phone was first introduced, Tracfone was quite restrictive in what sites you could access through their web/data services.

Hearing Aid Compatible (HAC) Rating: M3

This phone has been tested for hearing-aid compatibility and been given an M3 rating. That’s good but not great. Take a look at the LG200C if you want a Tracfone with an M4 rating.

Rates

This is a single rate for Local, Nationwide Long Distance, Roaming and even some international calls. Phone calls cost one unit per minute of calling. It cost 0.33 units to send and receive text messages. Data services described below have their own dollar rates which are a little more complicated.

Double Minutes for Life

The Tracfone LG 600g comes with double minutes for life. That mean you get double the number of airtime units listed on the airtime card you buy whether online or in a store.

Downloadable ringtones and graphics

While Tracfone doesn't offer the greatest selection of downloadable graphics and ringtones, you might be able to find something to please your eyes and ears. The graphics are targeted to the younger crowd, however.

Quick Rundown

Here's a quick rundown of some of the basic features and how they might still be useful - there's a reason why they're there.

Text Messaging

All phones have this now.

Vivid Color Display

Of course it has a color display. You can be the judge of how vivid it is.

Vibrating Alert

Have pity on your fellow diners and movie-goer and set it on vibrate, or at least Vibrate and then Ring as I do.

Voice mail

Streamlined Tracfone voice mail goes straight to the messages without annoying menus. You can even check it from a landline.

Call Waiting

It’s sometimes quicker to answer someone right away in case they don’t leave voice mail.

Caller ID

Know who’s calling.

Alarm Clock

Don’t miss that morning appointment especially if it’s a play date.

Stop Watch

Let’s see how long it takes you to run those laps.

Summary

The Tracfone LG 600g is one of their most attractive offerings yet with a unique combination of features which may make it worth your while.
