Text box message full

I keep receiving a message like this:
text message box is full 97%.
What do I have to do to fix this?

Hi,

My handset is no longer active so I can't add messages to try and reproduce this condition. I can't just ask you to try three things. First, make sure that text messages as saved to the phone (which I believe is the default) and not the SIM card. Second, of course, please delete any unnecessary messages to see if the message goes away. Finally, third, the phone may not pick up on the fact that you've deleted those messages until you restart the phone.

Try these out and get back to us. Thanks.

I went to so many websites and not one mentioned the Outbox. Like many here, my Outbox said zero when it really had every text I have ever sent. It was easy to select all and delete all. It was a very vexing problem with a simple solution. Thank you!!!

My outbox was full even though the previous screen said "outbox messages zero". Delete outbox messages.

You just saved me from buying a new phone! I couldn't get your info anywhere else. I had no idea the Outbox was saving all my messages, because there wasn't a number indicated in the parentheses.

I have a LG 441G flip phone. I kept getting messages that told me the text message box was 97, 98, 99% full. I look at the Inbox and I only had 7 messages in there. The issue is not with the Inbox but with the Outbox. That's what is reaching its maximum. Click on Outbox and Options, in the drop down you'll see Select Multiple. Click that and you can Select as many as you want. Then click Options again and Delete. It will delete as many as you have selected. It may have a select all as well but I didn't get that far. Delete message in the Outbox and the message goes away.

There is no mention of how to delete the text messages if they are already on the SIM card.

You will need to delete all text messages in your inbox and outbox that are no longer needed. Then you will need to turn your phone off and back on. If this does not help, you will need to keep deleting messages and turning your phone off and back on until the message stops.

If you have messages that you want to keep, you can always send them to your email address. You just need to save your email address to your phones contacts list. Then when you go to send the message, use the email address saved to your contacts list in the TO: line.
