2007 winding down, a tough year for some.

AT&T GoPhone "MiniBenz" $64.88
Walmart has the AT&T Prepaid Samsung A127 Paygo Mini-Benz on sale for $64.88. Nice flip phone camera phone (VGA quality only, though). Also on sale at Walmart is the lower-end Samsung A117 for $48.88, but this is actually cheaper at it's regular price of 39.99 at Best Buy.

Alltel U LG AX275 $59.94
Also on sale at Walmart is the Alltel U Prepaid Phone w/ Camera LG AX275. Also with a VGA camera, and quite good-looking in silver.

GoPhone Motorola C139 9.99
At Best Buy. This is their regular price, but it looks like the prepaid services are unloading these. Still, they're reliable and get the job done. Worth it if you don't "need" a camera phone or a flip phone.

Original Virgin Mobile Slice $17.99
Circuit City still has the original Virgin Mobile Slice for $17.99. Virgin Mobile now promotes the Super Slice, but the original may still be good enough for your needs.

Get a $20 airtime card free with the purchase of any Kajeet phone at Best Buy. The Samsung M300 is $59.99. If you have any "tweens" you've already probably gotten plenty of requests for a cell phone already. Worth thinking about, but maybe not at the last minute.

Fairly stylish flip phone with camera. At 4.6 oz., the Boost Mobile Motorola i855e is not the lightest phone you can get, but still quite compact.

Fairly new version of the slim Virgin Mobile Super Slice, now with bluetooth capability. Black or red. $39.99

Virgin Mobile Aloha $17.99
Good price on this basic flip phone, but beware, it currently gets a 2.5 out 5 rating on Best Buy's website.

In case you were thinking of getting a Kajeet phone for your "tweener" for Christmas. Best Buy has the Kajeet Sanyo Katana II with free $20 airtime card for $99.99. The free airtime card offer appears to be in-store only. My review.

Verizon Wireless Prepaid Razr $118.87
Walmart has the Verizon Wireless Motorola RAZR V3M Prepaid Phone, Silver for $118.87. So if still want a Razr phone, this is a good time.

Virgin Mobile Switchback -- big discount
Circuity City has a big discount (the kind you have to add to the cart to see) on the Virgin Mobile Switchback. Don't know if Virgin is trying to phase this phone out in favor of the Kyocera Wildcard, but if you like it, 'tis a good time to pick it up.

Even more Virgin Mobile phones
Even more Virgin Mobile phones are on sale at Circuity City including the Super Slice($49.99) and plain 'ol Slice(17.99), the Snapper($39.99), the Marbl(19.99), and the Aloha(24.99). The Aloha has the lowest customer rating of the lot, so you might want to think twice about that one. The others all get a pretty good rating.

Walmart has the new line of firefly phones for children. Mostly out of stock online but you can try to find them in stores.

Net 10 Nokia 1600-4 $29.99
This remains a bargain as you get a 300 minute bonus for activation. At 10 cents per minute, that covers the cost of the phone. My Net 10 review.

Best Buy has a rare $25 off the Verizon Inpulse Motorola w315, a 4.1 oz. tri-band flip phone, i.e. a small and light basic phone good for talking(!) and text messaging. You can set up voice-activated dialing, a not uncommon feature one rarely sees used, but useful if you otherwise need to dig out your eyeglasses in order to dial or read the entries in your phonebook.

Deals at WalmartUse their Site-to-Store option to save on shipping IF you happen to be going to Walmart anyway, otherwise save the gas and pay the shipping. Among the possibilities is the AT&T Sony Ericsson Z300A PayGo Prepaid Phone, since I like the look of the analog clock (shows my age, I guess). The Net 10 Nokia 1600-4 for $29.98 remains a great deal since you get 300 minutes included. A great short term buy for traveling in the USA as well.

At Best Buy. Looks like a good basic phone. Claims 336 hours standby time and 9 hours talk time between battery charges. Standby time is good. Don't have much use for 9 hours talk time if you use prepaid. Good reviews.

Virgin Mobile Cyclops - $10 off airtime
According to Circuit City's weekly ad, get $10 off an airtime card when you buy the Cyclops, Virgin Mobile's 1.3 megapixel camera phone.

Tracfone LG 225 $79.86
The flip phone with camera that comes with a double minutes is the same price at Walmart as online at Tracfone's site, but if you're willing to use Site-to-Store and trudge down to pick it up, you can save a few on shipping.

Target has the Motorla V170, the basic Tracfone flip phone with color screen, for $19. Add a 120 minute airtime card for $25. Both the phone and the card usually cost $30 each.

Virgin Mobile Cyclops $49
Target also has the Virgin Mobile Cyclops for $49. 1.3 megapixel camera phone. Fairly attractive as well.

Net10 Phone Sale! Save up to $30!
Get an additional 300 minute card when you buy a Nokia 1600 Net 10 phone for $30 or get an additional 600 minute card when you buy a Nokia 1100 for $60. That's effectively a free phone plus a 5 cent per minute rate. Pretty good! The additional 300 minute card adds 60 days of service, while the 600 minute card adds 120 days of service.

Best Buy has the Motorola C168i GoPhone or the Motorola C139 for $19.99. The new C168i has a larger screen for better usability (but that leads to less battery life).

AlltelU Samsung Snap $24.99
New stylish flip and camera phone for just $24.99. Probably the cheapest prepaid camera phone, not including Alltel's activation fee.

Finally you can get the thin Virgin Mobile Slice Prepaid Cell Phone for $24.73, the lowest I've seen on this one. This looks like a major promotion, as the phones were stacked on the store shelves this weekend.

Circuity City has new AT&T GoPhone for $59.99. A very basic phone for those who don't want the bother of a camera or bluetooth capability. It does have a speakerphone, though.

This inexpensive but flipper has dropped to $18.43. (Note: out of stock online. Try the store.)

STI Mobile Sanyo SCP-200 $39.99
Go off the beaten path with this basic Sanyo prepaid phone which does have voice-activated dialing. My STI mobile review .

Nokia Net10 phone $29.99
RiteAid/Eckerd has what looks like the Nokia 1600 Net 10 phone for $29.99. In store only.

Jolt Motorola V1 GSM phone $59.99
Kerr Drug has the new Jolt prepaid phone for $59.99. The Jolt Nokia 6010 is less: $44.99.Apparently cheap at around 7 cents per minute, but I haven't done a full review yet.

If you can't get them on campus, CompUSA now carries the new XE Mobile phones. 10 cents per minute and free incoming text messages. Another MVNO (virtual mobile network provider). The Nokia 6061 looks attractive enough and not too expensive at $39.99

Walmart has the Net10 Nokia 160-4 for $29.98. Net10 phones include $30 worth of airtime (300 minutes of airtime at 10 cents per minute).

Lowest ever, I think. Walmart has the TracFone Motorola GSM C261-4 for $30. Good deal on a basic camera phone, and the only one offered by Tracfone.

Walmart also has a sale on a couple of Verizon Wireless prepaid phones. The Verizon Wireless Samsung a870 Bluetooth Camera Phone is available for $59.98, and the nearly as cool Verizon Wireless PN-215 Prepaid Phone with camera and flash for $39.98

Another price drop at Walmart on the Verizon Wireless Samsung a870 Bluetooth Camera Phone. A good deal as the Samsung phones have a good reliability and "pocketability". If you don't care for a camera phone, the T-Mobile Samsung T219 Mobile Phone is a good option as well.

Best Buy also has the Cingular GoPhone version of the Motorola C139 for $29.99. Interesting that it's twice the cost of the Tracfone version. A good illustration of both how you don't get too many rebates with prepaid plans and also of why you choose your phone based on the plan and not because of the price of the phone. If the GoPhone plan is for you then its okay to pay $30 instead of $15 if the cost works out based on how you use your phone.
