Phishing SMS msgs

I have been using T-Mobile's prepaid service for about 3 rs & have never really had any problems with them until now. For the past 2 months i've been getting, & paying for, annoying spam/Phishing txt msgs posing as various
banks which i have never done business with.

After contacting T-Mobile, i discovered this is something that other T-Mobile customers have been getting on their phones too & was informed this is some type of new "SMSphing" scam which i, being a prepaid account, get stuck paying for each scam msg these lowlife pieces of dog crap send & of course T-Mobile says they can't do much about it.

BTW, my cell number has NEVER been given out to anyone. It's only used for emergencies. I've never used the internet on it & this is the first time in the 3 yrs I've had the phone that I've been getting these types of phishing msgs.

I don't know if changing the number will do any good because I suspect this is an internal problem on T-Mobile's service & really don't feel like wasting anymore money with them since they can't seem to do anything to fix this problem.

Try googling do not call list for cells. There is a number you can dial to have your number removed from ad lists who you have no control over.
Companies will pay for blocks of cell and landline numbers to solicit. Also check the menu in your phone,to see if you can BLOCK incoming numbers? Some of the NET 10 samsung prepaid phones have this feature, such as the T401G.
Good luck with your dilemma!

This contribution came in via the feedback form so I've made it anonymous.

Personally, I haven't had any such SMS phishing messages, but I have had some SMS spam for "make money online" schemes.

Unfortunately, I don't think SMS messages are currently regulated in the way that email is regulated with the CAN-SPAM law. I suspect that will happen soon if this becomes a problem.

I took the trouble to find out the hosting provider for the domain being promoted and asked them to ban that domain.

Regards.
