Net10 LG 300 Review

The Net10 LG 300 phone was one of the new set of LG phones introduced for Net10. Other LG phones in that lineup included the LG 400 flip phone and the LG 600 Bluetooth camera phone. The following review was written when the handset was introduced.

This LG 300 now includes 60 Days of Service upon activation, and for now, Net10 is offering a deal where you get a free extra $25 750-minute airtime card when you purchase the LG 300 for $25.

That works out to an introductory rate of 3.3 cents per minute over the 30 days. However, if you want to stay on the 10 cent per minute plan, you cannot use the $25 750 minute card because that puts you over into the 30 day plan.

Basic Info

The LG 300 is a compact, lightweight phone with a color screen and pretty good battery life.

Lightweight

The LG 300 is a very lightweight phone weighing only 2.1 ounces. One factor keeping the weight low is that it’s not a flip phone. So it weighs 2 ounces instead of three.

Battery Life

Similarly, battery life is harder to improve, because a battery with more storage is just going to weigh more, which we don’t want. So here the Talk time is about 7 hours, and the standby time is 10 days which is just OK, but could be better.

Still, the standby time is a better measure of the battery on a prepaid phone. After all, you’re usually not going to talk for 7 hours (420 minutes) at a time on a prepaid phone which translates to $42 worth of airtime.

Standard Features

You have access to the usual features such as voicemail, call waiting and caller id, a handsfree speaker, a selection of ringtones, and a phonebook. I probably don’t need to go over these, since you could look it all up in the manual.

Text is a little slow

You can send texts with no problem. However, the actual composing of the text message, due to the small keypad, can be slow going.

Voicemail

You can quickly set up voicemail on your Net10 phone. You are charged airtimes for checking your voicemail, but it’s a pretty efficient process so you don’t lose more than a couple of airtime minutes

Hands-free Speaker

There’s a hands-free speaker phone when you’re hands are just too busy to hold the phone though I don’t recommend using it in a car instead of pulling off the road, stopping, and calling the person back.

How to setup Hands-free

During a call, press the Right Soft-key option, then select "Speaker On". It is automatically deactivated at the end of the call.

500-Entry Phone Book

The LG 300 has enough space to store up to 500 entries in your phonebook.

Alarm Clock

You usually need an alarm clock when traveling. Whether you have to catch your business meeting or make sure you and the kids need to get up and ready on time to get into Disney World’s Magic Kingdom before it fills up to capacity, you need a reliable Alarm clock and not rely on the one in the hotel room.
