AT&T Motorola EM330 GoPhone

Compact Prepaid Megapixel Camera Phone with Music Player and FM Radio

The AT&T Motorola EM330 GoPhone was a cool prepaid flip phone with a 1.3 Megapixel Camera, Music Player, Streaming Radio, Bluetooth, Web, IM and Email.

Update

No longer offered as a Gophone, but there many other AT&T prepaid phones with music players offered these days.

1.3 Megapixel Camera

You can get some really nice snapshots with the 1.3 megapixel camera on the EM330. 1.3 megapixels are just enough to look pretty good on a computer since it takes up 1280 x 1024 pixels and fills your field of vision. You should be able to download the photos via Bluetooth or a USB cable (not included).

Once you’re done taking pictures you’re ready to listen to some music on the . . .

Multi-format Music Player

The EM330 can play the common music formats including MP3, AAC and AAC+ (iTunes format) and WMA (Windows Media player format). So it can play a large percentage of the music you can download or buy these days.

You can store all this music on a microSD card that fits into a slot on the phone.

2GB Storage

You can store up to 2 GB of your music and files on a microSD card. While this is a little less than some of the other phones, as long as you’re just storing music, this is still pretty good. And if you get tired of your own stuff, you can always listen to the . . .

FM Radio

You can listen to local stations via the built-in FM radio. If you subscribe to Media Net package for data, you can listen to streaming radio. Or you can also subscribe to mobile music services.

Stereo Bluetooth

Of course, what would a music phone be these days if it didn’t have stereo Bluetooth capability. You have to get a stereo Bluetooth headset separately for your Motorola EM330 GoPhone, but once you do, you no longer have to worry about untangling headphone wires every time you want to listen to some music.

When you’re done taking pictures and listening to music, you could get on the web.

Mobile Web

The Motorola EM330 GoPhone (with the Media Net package) has a WAP 2.0 web browser for surfing the internet in addition to receiving news, sports, weather, and entertainment news. The screen on the EM330 is fairly small at 128 x 60 pixels, so you can only comfortably look at web sites that have been optimized for viewing on cell phones.

Messaging

In addition to standard text and picture messaging, you can also do Instant Messaging on the Yahoo, AOL and MSN networks.

So much for the fancy stuff. Let's get back to basics.

Basic Features

Battery Life Etc.

The Motorola EM330 GoPhone uses a higher capacity 940 mAH battery. This leads to a talk time of around 5 hours and the standby time is up to 20 days which is excellent. Of course, if you spend a lot of that time listening to music, you can expect to charge the phone more often.

Size and Weight

The phone weighs just over 3 ounces (the flip handle adds slightly to the weight). It measures just 3.72 x 1.95 x 0.68 inches.

Productivity Tools

If you want to use your phone as your personal organizer, then you can make use of the calendar, alarm clock, and address book.

Otherwise you can get some . . .

Downloads

You can download the usual assortment of graphics, games, and ringtones – some of which you can set as answerback tones as well.

Manual

You can find out more by downloading the Motorola EM330 GoPhone manual (pdf) here.
