Kajeet is the perfect choice for a special needs family member.

by Tammy
(Orlando, FL)

I have a special needs 18 year old daughter who is developmentally delayed with PDD-NOS (Autism Spectrum) and ADHD. She has issues with her social skills and assumes everyone is her friend. The world of technology has proved to not be a safe place for her.

Unfortunately we have had to limit her access to the internet as well as a cell phone for her own safety. The cell phone issue was a problem with her giving out her phone number to anyone. We tried another prepaid cell phone provider, but due to her disabilities she did not have the self-control to limit the minutes used on her phone. BUT, a cell phone has become a necessity to be able to communicate with her and is a great safety tool for emergencies.

In my cell phone search I finally found a cell phone provider with excellent parental controls where I can completely control all incoming/outgoing calls and text messages. In our case, we have limited the calls to/from family members only. You can also put time limits and time of day limits on the phone and there is GPS available for safety. Kajeet is perfect for a special needs family member. If you have the same concern try Kajeet (Sprint Network). They don't require a contract and have very affordable monthly plans. Phones start at $24.99. This link will give you 15% off you phone purchase: www.kajeet.com/coupon.

I finally feel better than I can contact my daughter anytime and she can contact us if she's scared or needs anything. She calls me everyday as soon as she gets to school and I can leave her messages to remind her of something or doctor's appointments, etc. She texts us daily for fun. It's very important for her to have a cell phone to feel special and like a "normal" person and it's a great tool to ease anxiety.

We don't have to worry about strangers, bullying or sexting on her phone.

Thank You

Thank you for your kind comment. We could have easily added our daughter to our AT&T Family Plan, but unfortunately they do not have the best parental controls. Kajeet's parental controls allow us to completely control the use of the phone for safety reasons.

Tammy,

Thanks for this really useful post. As parents we always want to have our kids be as independent as possible while still staying safe. It's encouraging to read about your persistent and optimistic approach to solving this problem for your daughter.

If I meet a parent with similar needs I'll be sure to point them to your story.

Regards.
