Grandfathered Verizon Free-Up Plan

by Mike
(Midland, PA)

I am fortunate to have the older Verizon Free-Up pre-paid plan. I've had this plan for more than 10 years and I am very satisfied with it. I don't pay any access fees, but the per minute rate is kind of high. I have to add minutes at least every 90 days (used to be 60 days)with a $30.00 minimum to keep the plan going. National long distance is free and weekends and holidays are free. I pay 0.35 cents per minute and 0.70 cents per minute when in roaming. Coverage is very good and I rarely have any dropped calls or no service. My only minor gripe is that my plan won't allow me to do anything with pictures that I take with my phone. They can't be emailed or uploaded to a computer. I believe there is some kind of cable available that would allow me to do send pics to a PC, but I'm really not motivated enough to buy one.

free-up/ you can text & get new phone
by: Anonymous

I have the free-up plan. If you want a new phone, just go to best buy and get a verizon pre-pay phone and don't activate it. I got a samsung flip phone to replace my old kyocera. Also, if you access your account online, like I do, you can activate text messaging for .10 a text. You can switch your phone over online as well. There are instructions via your account on how to do it.

I have one of those too ... with an equally old phone. Want to transfer to new phone, want to use text messaging without losing the plan, anyone know if that is possible?
