Change POP to IMap or vice versa for email

by Cliff

I love my EX124G, however when I set up my email account, I chose POP instead of IMAP. Now I cannot download my emails UNLESS I go through the browser.

I think if I could switch to the IMAP protocol it may work. But when I delete my email setup and RE-setup, it no longer asks me to choose between POP and IMAP and there is no way to "edit" my POP selection. I wish I knew how to change it!

Hi Cliff,

Yeah, the phone remembers your choice for a particular domain name. For example, if you choose the IMAP4 protocol for a Yahoo! email address, that protocol is automatically assigned to any email addresses created containing that domain name. I couldn't find a way to change that in the settings, but here's one way to get around it:

Workaround: Use a Different Domain Name Initially

Sticking with the Yahoo example. Instead of using the yahoo.com domain name, you can use a different domain name. For our purposes, let's call it sb@Yah77.com instead. Now when you go through the setup process, you will again be asked to choose between the POP and IMAP protocols, and you can choose the one you want.

After you complete the setup, you can go back and edit the email address and server settings (if necessary) back to what they should be.

Let us know if it works out for you.

Regards,
sb (admin)

Success!

That' s exactly what ended up working! Luckily, my email provider showed what my outgoing and incoming settings should be, so I just re-edited all the settings to the correct domain. NOW, it works like TF describes.
