Can the LG100C (without battery) work while sitting in the charger cradle with the battery removed?

This may sound like an odd question but I have a scenario where I want a phone that will work normally on street power with it's battery removed, while it's plugged into it's recharging cradle. I want it to go straight to voice mail when the street power is out. This is for monitoring whether street power is on in a remote location.

Sorry, I don't think it'll work

Hi,

I don't have the LG100C with me at the moment, however I did try what you asked with the LG290C. It did not work. The message said "Battery is required". I also tried starting up the phone with then battery in and the charger plugged in and then tried removing the battery, but I got the same message.

I also tried the procedure on a Motorola W376g, and it also didn't work.

I suppose you could try putting in a basically dead battery that doesn't hold a charge to get a rough idea of when the power goes out.

I used this tactic in reverse with our regular landline phone during an ice storm in NC in the early 2000's. There was no power for about six days. In those days, we had a separate powered answering machine connected to the phone which, of course, only worked if the power was on.

We couldn't stay in the house with our child because it was too cold. So, several times a day, I would call our home number and wait to see if the answering machine would pick up. When it finally did, we knew the power was back on.

Regards.
